Steady economic development of one of the most important directions for
Armenia may be furthered by development and utilization of the sources of alternative and renewable energy, such as solar, wind-driven, small hydroelectric, biogas, geometric and hydrogenous energy resources. In spite of the fact that the country has considerable potential and favorable natural conditions to develop alternative and renewable energy, in reality, at present their utilization is on quite an undistinguished level. The small number of solar models (including photoelectric and heating solar systems), a few wind driven turbines and so on, practically has no role in the country’s energy supply.
In the article, written by Vahe Odabashian and Susan Khachatryan, is presented the overall review of the condition of the sectors of renewable energy in Armenia today. Here are briefly represented the main participants of different branches of alternative energy, including state, private, non-governmental and international organizations, are observed the main energy and technical characteristics of renewable energy resources and power plants. It is also discussed the potential of utilizing renewable/alternative sources of energy as well as the problem of the state support to the development of this sphere.
Right now article available only In Russian and Armenian, soon we have English version too.
